Description
Originally made in the Kofun period (300-552) for ritual use, Haniwa were found buried with the dead. The unglazed figures took on many forms and have been found in quantities of up to 15,000 on monumental tombs often surrounded by moats. I handmade 34 unique bisque-fired Haniwa. With a nod to the look of their namesakes & influenced by mini-beast companions in my Hackney garden. Making the figures proved to be a positive creative focus for me during lockdown. Kane will hold your incense stick, cover the end of a sharp garden cane or be your zoom buddy.
